Descent into Dhimmitude

By J. Peter Pham & Michael I. Krauss - March 27, 2006 12:00 AM

While most media accounts of the "cartoon jihad" focused on the publication of the cartoons, and on the ensuing violent reaction by some Muslims -- who were depicted by the much of the press as victims! -- few reporters have ventured to describe the increasingly hostile climate that Muslim extremists had succeeded in creating in Denmark before the publication. In fact, an examination of Jyllands-Posten's own pages reveals why its editors likely decided to publish the cartoons in the first place -- as well as why the obscurantist rioters were so confident that they would prevail.

In late 2004 -- a University of Copenhagen professor of Moroccan Jewish descent -- was kidnapped in broad daylight and brutally beaten by three Muslim youths for the "crime" of having read from the Quran during a lecture. A few months later, a Danish publisher used anonymous translators for an essay collection critical of Islam for fear that any named assistant would suffer a similar fate. And in an incident immediately preceding Jyllands-Posten's decision to run the cartoons as a test of self-censorship, Danish artists refused to illustrate a children's book about Muhammad.

These incidents, all disturbing, don't even scratch the surface of the appeasement Danes have made to accommodate the people who unleashed violence against them. In Copenhagen's public schools, the only food available to students -- regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof -- are Halal (prepared according to Islamic dietary requirements). In Denmark, a country which enjoys well-deserved praise for the courage with which citizens came together to save its small Jewish community during World War II, Danish Jewish students today cannot attend certain public schools because their very presence is viewed by administrators as "provocative" to radicalized Muslim peers. The country's only Jewish school, Copenhagen's 300-pupil Carolineskolen, founded in 1805, nowadays is constrained to operate behind a double ring of barbed wire.

Naser Khader, the Damascus-born son of a Palestinian father and Syrian mother who has served as a Danish parliamentarian from the Social Liberal Party since 1994, now lives under round-the-clock police protection because he committed the "crime" of giving his daughter a kafir ("infidel," read "Western") name. Compounding his "apostasy," he founded a moderate Muslim group with over 700 members, Democratic Muslims, after the outbreak of the "cartoon jihad" to campaign against Islamic establishmentarianism. Imam Ahmad Abu Laban -- the same character who instigated Middle Eastern anti-Danish riots with his portfolio of doctored cartoons -- then labeled Mr. Khader and his supporters "rats in a hole." One of the members of Khader's new group, Iranian refugee Kamran Tahmesabi, recently told a Belgian newspaper, "It is an irony that I am today living in a European democratic state and have to fight the same religious fanatics that I fled from in Iran many years ago."

After the "cartoon jihad" had seemingly run its course, this past February 12, the Danish chapter of the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir availed itself of the Scandinavian country's "decadent" freedoms to hold a meeting in the Copenhagen neighborhood of Nørrebro, where it attempted to stoke the flames of hatred. The participants at this gathering minced no words about the "infidels" who populate their country. Leader Fadi Abdullatif (who had previously received a 60-day sentence for threatening to kill Jews) turned his wrath on Denmark's popular bicycle-riding sovereign, Queen Margarethe II, whom he accused of involvement in a "conspiracy" with Jyllands-Posten and Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to "harm Islam." The state prosecutor, under pressure from Muslim groups, declined to bring charges.

Historically, non-Muslim minorities (i.e., Jews and Christians) could escape the ravages of violent jihad only by surrendering to Islamic domination through a treaty of agreed-upon subjugation and oppression (dhimma) that turned them into "protected persons" (dhimmis) with second class status within the real of Islam. Today, it seems that even non-Muslim majorities are requested to descend into dhimmitude to avoid the wrath of some new immigrants. But, to paraphrase our own American Freedom Marchers, we are citizens, not dhimmis. Of course, once one has let oneself be treated like a dhimmi, it becomes hard to protest.

Exaggeration to prove a point
I'm not sure what the point of the article is, but as a dane I can say that the depiction of the religious and political climate is not as correct as it could be. The facts presented in the article are correct, but hugely exaggerated.

Danes do not live in fear. Naser Khader has done a lot more (good things) to anger extremists, than name his daughter. Extremists are widely regarded as loons by both christians and muslims, but they do receive much media awareness.

Lefty Multiculturalism
This is what worship at the pedestal of multiculturalism gets you...tolerance of intolerance. Afterall, who are we Westerners to judge other cultures and determine right and wrong for them.

Absolutely disgusting. Our own country is moving in this direction ever so slowly.

Exaggeration?
But don't you think this is a sign of more to come? What will Denmark do to to stop this trend? Do the Danes and their politicians have the moral fortiude to confront this head on without fear of being labeled "Islamophobes" or "racists"?

Moral fortitude
I do not think it is a sign of more to come. I do not recognize the depiction in the article. My first thought when i read the article was "Micheal Moore" because of how facts are used to paint a distorted image of reality.

I think there is an important distinction between confronting muslims i general, which I think the article is doing, and confronting extremists. Personally, I do not see a trend, especially I do not see a trend in percecution of jews, as the the article does.

I'm not sure what your understanding of "moral fortitude" are, but I don't think it should be a government job!!

Lefty multiculturalism
Yes, multiculturalism is a tool of the hard left, which also distorts language and forces its distortions on others.

For example, I am not Islamophobic. A phobia is an irrational fear. Any fear that normal people have of Muslims is completely rational. People who neither fear nor like Muslims are what I would label "sane".

dhimmitude
The Danes are facing the least of the Muslim jihad in
Europe. Sweden, Malmo in particular, will be Muslim and under sharia in a decade or less if things continue as is. France might even beat them to it. Riots there, highjacked by a tiny minority of extremists, "yoots," rampaged again last day by smashing windows and French people. There is no end until Islam is triumphant everywhere on Earth. And dhimmitude is unlikely as an option because Europeans are giving up and dying without even bothering to survive at all to be dhimmis. They lie down and get beaten on the streets.
I predict again that from mid-April the Euro-fada will begin again in earnest, and by August France will be under martial law and in a state of civil war.

Question the motives of those who deny the conditions of open jihad in Europe. Are they working for governments in Europe? Why the endless party line when there are gang-rapes and daylight beatings on the streets and helpless police refusing to act to protect citizens? Who are these people who say there is no problem? The blood on the streets prooves the problem, and observation prooves it is shed by Muslims. Only the governments of Europe are denying the existence of Muslim jihad in full fury against the European people. Who are these people writing that the problem doesn't exist, and that the problems that do are welfare related? Dhimmi governments. The lie, they lie, they lie, and there will be civil war in Europe by mid-summer.

People who neither fear nor .....
Obviously have never lived under Islamic law nor see what is happening where large Islamic populations exist. One wonders if the Paris youth fresh from fearessly confronting their hapless government feared the Muslims who beat them senseless for their cell phones in Paris during the demonstrations of proposed government employment reforms?

Substitue the word ***** or Communists for Muslims and one understands why there are so many dhimmies in Europe.

Of course it won't get worse
This is why Sweden and Norway's emergency services will not go into Muslim neighborhoods or why most rapes are commited by Muslims in those nations. Denmark is exempt because its people are....different?

Take a look at what mutli culturalism has done for Holland
People are leaving in record numbers because of the government's policies and the subsequent increase in violence by its Muslim population. Dutch blogs have discussed this problem.

Is that a fact?
The basis of your question are wrong, so I dont know how to answer you.

The problem areas are not problems because of islam, but because it is poor with higt unemployment and relatively high crime rates. You could argue that powerty is related to religion, but then i suppose that poor latino and black communities in the US are also related to islam.

By the way Denmark and Sweden are very different when it comes to immigration and multiculturalism.

Dhimmitude May Breed A Phoenix
A PHOENIX MAY ARISE FROM THE ASHES OF DHIMMITUDE
The troubles in Europe seem likely to get worse before they get better. The general European fear of risk (lives become more precious when you have but one child per couple), favoring hedonism over procreation, the limited hope and thus ambition of too many (half of French university students prefer government jobs), the 10% unemployment, fear of everything, especially potential beneficial change, unions, students and Muslims, their tolerance of major illegal disruptions, and the reported 40% depression that prevails in many French departments, seem to only get worse.

In a few years, however, the children of those European families that have hope and more than 2 children each will grow to predominate and will tend to eclipse the fearful hedonists, who will have to allow change if only to ensure support by the young in their old age in the face of ever-growing world economic competition. Either that or their young will emigrate to greener pastures. Poland maybe.

Of course, much the same is true here in America and other advanced countries: survival of the fittest by self-selected breeding. These tend to be more religious and of higher net worth, income, and education than average. In America, many home school their children, thus ensuring superior education and independence which augers well for our future leadership..

The question in Europe is whether the growing Moslem immigrant population will outpace the emergence of less fearful young people from large native families; or indeed whether the Moslem population needs to grow much larger for it to dominate European politics. Given the fear that dominates Europe today, the race may well already be over.

Thus a major beneficial result of the Bush initiative in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and elsewhere is to counter the emerging Moslem domination of Europe by loosening the hold of the radical imams. Watch what is done, not what is said.

Hogwash
Tell me that the same problems occur in poor areas where only Swedes,or Norwegians or Danes live as opposed to Muslims. The statement that poverty is responsible for criminal behavior says more about you than it does the poor.

Its over all ready
Europe has folded up its tent forty years ago. Its all over but the errecting of mosques.

Internalized fear is difficult to detect
The essence of the dhimmi state is a psychological internalization of fear so that one can lead one's life entirely "normally" but automatically avoiding all the things that muslims may find offensive. It takes a simple act of defiance to expose it, a reflexive "boy, that's crazy" thought when somebody treats islam as others treat christianity or judaism. It's only crazy if muslims are a special protected class that cannot be examined or challenged, and who exactly put muslims on that pedastal?

A fellow in the US south west opened my eyes. He and a few of his friends desecrated a few personally bought and paid for korans and took pictures that he then published on the Internet. The FBI came to visit him a week later because his name was coming up as marked for death. Had he done the same with a Bible or a Torah, would he be suffering death threats? I doubt it.

Putting aside the crassness of his actions, I find that I am not brave enough to risk my children to fully express my religious convictions that Islam is simply wrong. I find that galling. What I find almost as galling is that for the longest time I was unaware that I was self-censoring.

Why does Europe surrender?
DO NOT tell me every school in Denmark has islamic menus for their high school students. Where is the political leadership in their country? Why do these nations just surrender to these welfare abusers who provide or produce nothing but crimes to the nation that feeds them? Europe needs to send back ALL MUSLIMS to their lands of origin ASAP!!
